My Top Holiday Tablescape Tips
When it comes to creating a beautiful and easy holiday tablescape there are a few key components that can really make it not only easy but festive to enhance your celebrations. Here are five of my favorite tips to help you set up an easy yet super beautiful holiday table:
// CHOOSE A THEME // Start by selecting a theme that aligns with the holiday or occasion. Whether it’s a traditional Christmas, a modern Hanukkah, or a general winter wonderland theme, having a cohesive concept for your overall tablescape / holiday gathering vibe will help guide your decor choices. I like to consider colors, accent pieces (like greenery, florals, etc), and the overall aesthetics that match the theme to create a visually appealing table.
// ADD LAYERS WITH FABRICS AND TEXTURE // I love to add a bit of depth and interest to my table by layering different textures and fabrics. A great way to do this is to use a tablecloth or table runner as a base, then layer with place mats or chargers. Incorporate napkins, napkin rings, and even textured dishware. Mixing and matching different materials like linen, metallics, and wood can create a rich and inviting look. For this holiday tablescape I used a gold woven fabric as my partial runner to add some depth from the almost woven like texture of the fabric with a bit of greenery on the side in order to tie in some super festive holiday cocktails, and topped plates with a beautiful printed napkin wrapped with a little greenery to give it a pop of color and and depth with a holiday vibe.
// CHOOSE A FOCAL POINT // One big huge tip I learned from a interior designer friend is to ALWAYAS designate a central focal point on the table to draw attention. This could be a stunning centerpiece like a floral arrangement, a cluster of candles, or a themed decoration. Consider using elevated stands or trays to add height and dimension to the centerpiece. Make sure it doesn’t obstruct views or conversation across the table. For this holiday tablescape I chose to make the center focal point a little Christmas set up with a wreath wrapped in holly berries around it. I placed candles and some festive jingle bells around the center to give an extra festive vibe.
// INCORPORATE SEASONAL ASPECTS // When it comes a holiday tablescape, you have to bring the holiday spirit to your tablescape by incorporating seasonal elements. Utilize natural elements like pinecones, evergreen branches, or holly berries. Consider using festive ornaments, candles, or small figurines that complement the theme. Seasonal fruits like pomegranates or cranberries can also add a pop of color like I did for my holiday tablescape.
// ADD A PERSONALIZED TOUCH // One thing I love to do it aways add a personal touch to each place setting. For this you can use place cards with the names of your guests or create personalized tags tied to each napkin. Small favors or trinkets at each setting can serve as both decor and a token of appreciation for your guests. Personalization adds a thoughtful and warm touch to a holiday tablescape. A great holiday tablescape idea is wrap a little gift tag around your napkin and a piece of pinecone or evergreen to keep it festive.
Honestly when it comes to any tablescape, especially a holiday tablescape- just remember, the key is to keep it simple and cohesive. Don’t overcrowd the table with too many decorations, and make sure there’s enough space for serving dishes and comfortable dining. The main goal it to always create a festive atmosphere for your holiday celebrations where everyone can eat, drink and be merry, right?
