Whether you’re betting on horses at Churchill Downs or attending a Kentucky Derby party,  this is the perfect excuse to go over the top with your fashion to put on your Sunday best.  I definitely appreciate any excuse to get dressed up.  The Derby is known for being a fashion extravaganza.  You will slay any event, if you remember these three pieces of advice.

First, your hat is your staple.  Select a hat that you’re comfortable wearing and have fun with it.  This is a perfect opportunity to get creative and get out of your comfort zone.  Choose a hat that is bright, unique, and expresses your personal style and creativity. Second, Derby Day is the day for spring dresses.  If you’re thinking about wearing jeans, hold your horses.  This is the perfect excuse to get girly and showcase your femininity.  Floral prints and peplum dresses are your BFFs in which you can’t go wrong.  If you aren’t a fan of florals, you can use this opportunity to wear spring pastel colors.  Some of my favorites are lilac, pink, yellow, lapis blue, and pale dogwood.  Or you can always keep it classic with a little black dress like I did.  I chose a pencil peplum dress that was so comfortable and flattering.

Last, but not least, pull out your comfortable high heels. The higher the heel, the closer to God.  Make sure no matter what you decide to wear that you grab your mint julep and have a great time!  Cheers!
