Wineries to Visit in Georgia
A lot of us feel like summer has passed us by very quickly this year. Within a blink of an eye, we are now getting ready to go back to school and preparing for fall.
If you are looking to savour the last few weeks of summer, make sure to take advantage of a few of Georgia’s incredible wineries. Although not Napa Valley, Georgia has some pretty incredible wineries. From Dahlonega to Helen, the Peach State has plenty of wonderful options! Today I am sharing wineries to visit in Georgia.
If there’s one Georgia winery you’ve already heard about, it’s likely Chateau Elan. Located just North of Atlanta on 3,500 acres sits a luxury destination resort equipped to host more than just an afternoon of wine tasting. Boasting a serene Spa Mansion welcoming both overnight and day guests as well as two gorgeous golf courses, the property is perfect for a quintessential getaway.
Just last summer, we attended the grand opening of Marc Bar & Restaurant, a southern-inspired edition to the 16th century-styled winery. Featuring lush vineyard views, a seasonal menu that is to die for, and, of course, exquisite libations, Marc Bar & Restaurant is a must-try when visiting.
Chateau Elan is very special to me; this is where I experienced my first wine tasting, my first spa facial, and my first romantic getaway with my fiancé. As the most-awarded winery and resort on the East Coast, Chateau Elan has something for everyone.
As you may know, Montaluce Winery is my wedding venue so needless to say, I love it there. Located in Dahlonega just 40 miles North of Atlanta is the winery-based community known as Montaluce Winery & Estates. You’ll quickly notice the beautiful Tuscan-styled architecture that brings you out of Atlanta traffic and right into a Tuscan escape, truly making you feel like you’ve travelled far away to sip on wine. What could be better?
For the outdoorsy type, Montaluce offers wine hikes every Saturday & Sunday as the best way to experience the beauty of North Georgia while also learning about the history of the area and its growing wine culture. To top it off, you’ll unwind on a patio overlooking the vineyard and enjoy Montaluce wines, of course. This unique offering creates the perfect day trip for a wine connoisseur who also happens to love those beautiful North Georgia mountains. Added bonus: you’ll surely have earned your wine by the end of the day!
Nestled on the base of iconic Yonah Mountain near Helen, GA is the 200 acre winery known as Yonah Mountain Vineyards. A truly family-owned property, Bob and Jane MIller purchased the land in 2005 and turned former farmland into this tranquil destination serving world-class wines.
Dreaming up your ideal adventure day? Hop in the car, drive North of Atlanta, and enjoy the beautiful sights of Cleveland, GA with a hike up Yonah Mountain followed by one-of-a-kind wines in the charming family atmosphere of the vineyard.
Also a Dahlonega favorite, Kaya Vineyard & Winery brings its own unique enjoyment as the first and largest winery in the area. Spend the day or stay the night; the vineyard recently opened four luxury, craftsman style cottages that are the first of what will be 14 gorgeous cottages on the property.
Assuming you’ll love it so much that you want to visit often, the vineyard offers a Kaya Key Holders Wine Club membership, an all-inclusive way to soak up the beautiful scenery, new wines, and delicious recipes.
Rustic, honest, and welcoming: the sentiments of Cavender Creek Vineyards & Winery, as described by owner Claire Livingston. When she set out to establish a small winery, Claire knew she wanted to capture the true spirit of North Georgia, avoiding any efforts to portray a Napa Valley look-alike. Cavender Creek has two simple goals: to serve hand-crafted wines made on-site and to foster community. As a small winery, emphasis is placed on the smaller details.
For a slower-paced winery atmosphere offering scenic views, great wines, rustic accents, and an overall escape from the city, add Cavender Creek to your list!
Chateau Meichtry Family Vineyard & Winery
Family-owned and operated, Chateau Meichtry is located in the gorgeous rolling hills of the Appalachian Mountains. The story started just shy of 100 years ago in Switzerland with a man, a suitcase, and a genuine zest for life.
Located in Talking Rock, Georgia, Chateau Meichtry provides the peace and tranquility many of us look for on the weekends, craving a fulfilling change of scenery from the bustling environment of everyday life in Atlanta. Whether you prefer a daytime tour or an evening spent listening to a local musician with your favorite glass of Cabernet in hand, you’re sure to enjoy this gem of a vineyard.
Yet another Dahlonega winery destination is Wolf Mountain Vineyards, Georgia’s premier wine and food experience. Wolf Mountain has won over 200 medals in major U.S. wine tasting competitions, priding themselves as a leader in fine wine production on the East Coast.
A truly picturesque setting on the hillside, Wolf Mountain provides many charming ways for guests to enjoy the scenery. From Sunday brunch, to lunch at the Vineyard Cafe, to an estate tasting or even a Vineyard wedding, Wolf Mountain does it all.
