Easy Fall Dessert Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings
One of the best things about fall is the fresh produce — and no matter the season, apples stay in my rotation. Whether it’s apple cider, an apple mini cheesecake, or a warm apple dessert, I am always finding a way to work them in. I don’t know if it’s the blend of nutmeg and cinnamon or just the nostalgia of apples from when I was a child, but whatever it is, I love them. You are always going to see an apple somewhere on my menu.
Beyond the nostalgia, apples have so many wonderful health benefits, and they’re seamlessly easy to fold into all kinds of recipes — salads, desserts, breakfast, you name it. That versatility is exactly why I love this fail-proof dessert so much. These Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings are one of my tried-and-true favorites, and the best part is they work no matter where you are in your cooking journey. From entry-level to expert, they’re absolutely fail-proof.
The sauce is so good, simple, and sophisticated all at once. I love serving these warm after dinner with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, but they’re endlessly adaptable: a little yogurt and fresh apple on top makes a lovely breakfast, and they’re perfect to bring to a potluck or set out at a book club paired with a glass of wine or a cozy fall drink. No matter how you serve them, I’m certain these will become a staple in your dessert rotation, just like they are in mine.

When I Love Serving Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings
These dumplings are endlessly versatile, which is exactly why they’ve earned a permanent spot in my fall rotation. Here are six of my favorite ways to serve them.
As an After-Dinner Dessert
Warm from the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting on top — this is the cozy, simple-yet-sophisticated way I love to end a fall dinner.
At a Dinner Party
They look and taste like you fussed, but they couldn’t be easier. A make-ahead-friendly dessert that lets you stay with your guests instead of in the kitchen.
When Someone Stops By Unexpectedly
With crescent rolls and a couple of apples on hand, you can pull these together on short notice — my go-to when I want to offer a guest something special without a trip to the store.
For Breakfast or Brunch
Top with a little yogurt and fresh apple for a tasty morning treat. They make an easy, slightly indulgent addition to a slow fall breakfast.
At a Potluck
Rich, crowd-pleasing, and easy to transport — this is the dish I love to bring along. It always disappears.
At a Book Club or Cozy Gathering
Something nice to wind down with, paired with a glass of wine or a cozy fall cocktail. Perfect for a relaxed evening with friends.
Ingredients
Crescent roll dough
The shortcut that makes this fail-proof; it bakes into a buttery, flaky wrap around each apple.
Butter
The base of that irresistible sauce; it melts with the sugar and cinnamon into a rich glaze.
Vanilla extract
Rounds out the sauce with warm, aromatic sweetness.
Cinnamon
The cozy fall spice that makes these taste like apple pie in dumpling form.
Brown sugar
Brings deep caramel notes and helps the sauce thicken as it bakes.
7Up
The secret ingredient; the soda bubbles up around the rolls and helps create that signature sauce. Sprite, ginger ale, or Mountain Dew work too.
Granny Smith apples
Their tartness balances all that sweetness and holds up beautifully in the oven.
Vanilla ice cream
The cool, creamy finish against the warm dumplings; non-negotiable in my book.

How To Make Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings
Pour the soda between the rolls rather than over them — it pools underneath and bubbles up to create that signature sauce while the tops bake golden and flaky. You’re looking for golden-brown crescent tops with the sauce bubbling around the edges.
Preheat the oven
To 350°F and butter a 13×9-inch baking dish.
Peel and core the apples
Then cut each into 8 equal slices — you’ll have 16 slices total, one for each crescent roll triangle.
Unwrap
The crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles.
Arrange
Place an apple slice on the wide end of each triangle and roll it up like a croissant. Arrange the rolls in the buttered dish.
Combine
In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, and vanilla. Mix until smooth and liquid with no lumps, then pour evenly over the rolls.
Pour the 7Up
Between the rolls (not over the top of them) and bake for 35 to 45 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
Serve
Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Variations
Swap the soda
Sprite or ginger ale work in place of 7Up — each adds its own subtle note to the sauce.
Add nuts
Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the rolls before baking for crunch.
Spice it up
Add a pinch of nutmeg or apple pie spice along with the cinnamon for deeper fall flavor.
Make it breakfast
Skip the ice cream and serve with a dollop of yogurt and fresh apple on top.
Caramel finish
Drizzle with caramel sauce just before serving for an extra-indulgent dessert.

What to Serve With Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings
These dumplings are a star on their own, but they pair beautifully with.
Cream
A scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream.
Fall Drink
A cozy fall drink — hot apple cider, a spiced cocktail, or a glass of wine.
Yogurt
A morning yogurt-and-apple topping for a breakfast twist.
Storage
Lefovers
Store and covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheat
Reheat gently in the oven or microwave until warm.
Crescent rolls
Will soften over time but stay delicious.
FAQs
Can I make this ahead of time?
They’re best baked fresh, but you can assemble the rolls in the dish ahead of time, then add the sauce and soda and bake just before serving.
Why do you pour the soda between the rolls?
The soda pools underneath and bubbles up as it bakes, which is what creates that signature sauce. Pouring it over the tops would keep them from getting golden and flaky.
How do I know when they’re done?
Look for golden-brown crescent tops with the sauce bubbling around the edges of the dish — usually 35 to 45 minutes.
Can I use a different apple?
Granny Smith is my favorite because the tartness balances the sweet sauce, but any firm baking apple like Honeycrisp works well.
Can I serve these for breakfast?
Absolutely — skip the ice cream and top with a little yogurt and fresh apple for a tasty morning treat.
