Lately one thing I absolutely LOVE to do while creating flower arrangments it to break open one of my favorite wines and enjoy a glass. I call it my sip and create – the flower edition! Cute name, right?

My favorite wine of the moment- is J.Lohr Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon. Not only does this cabernet grace the palate with the most delicious, plump and luscious texture- it also strikes perfect balance with every single sip. The unique blend of its trademark aromas of blackberry and blueberry enhanced by crushed violet, spiced tea and herbes de Provence. Its equal parts dense and soft with a bright finish. I am OBSESSED!

EASY TIPS TO CREATE THE PERFECT FLORAL ARRANGMENT

  • Prune any leaves below the water line
  • Top water with ice cubes
  • Always to make sure you cut stems at a 45 degree angle
  • Try to keep floral arrangements out of direct sunlight
  • Use tape to help create a tik-tac-toe pattern to help create your arrangment easily

// Prune any leaves below the water line // When it comes pruning leave below the water line it is a must. You see when leaves hit / submerge into the water – it causes flowers to decay and die so much faster.

// Top water with ice cubes // One thing I recently learned at a flower arrangment class was to top water off with ice cubes. Weird, right? Well  ice cold water helps slow down any bacteria or mold growth on flowers. Doing this helps flowers last so much longer.

// Always make sure to cut stems at a 45 degree angle // So this I feel was the very first thing I learned with flowers- always trim the tinniest bit off the stem each day if you can to help the flowers reeive maximum hydration. But let’s be honest – sometimes we forget to do that daily- so if you can aim for a few times a week it will definetly help keep them alive so much long. I try to do this when I change the water and of course top with ice.

// Try to keep your floral arrangment out of direct sunlight // HUGE lesson I learned was NEVER put a floral arrangment in the direct sunlight. Since they aren’t rooted in the ground have already been cut and pruned – direct sunlight makes flowers TOO hot and the petals will wilt so much faster. So trust me – keep them out of direct sunlight at all costs to keep them alive much longer.

// Use tape to create a tik-tac-toe pattern to create the perfect floral arrangment easily // So this was a tip from my mom- made a tik-tac-toe pattern or a grid along the top of your vase using clear tape. Depending on how tight you want your floral arrangment you will want to make smaller or larger grids – I like a 2″x2″ alot of the time. Then you will trim your flowers to the height you want – making sure to pull off all extra leaves (and anything below the water long). Then the fun part begins – arrangment your flowers the way you want by placing them within the tape grid openings you created. The grid is awesome because it allows the flowers to stand up and make the vase look nice and full at alll times. You’ll arrange your flowers the way you want – I start in the middle then work around the edges and then start to fill in the middle with anything missing or if I am going festive – things like stems, twigs, or even baby’s breath.

** BONUS TIP: Change the water every day for even more longevity. **
