Salmon Pasta

What Is Creamy Lemon Salmon Piccata Pasta?

Creamy Lemon Salmon Piccata Pasta is a modern, slightly more indulgent take on a classic Italian piccata-style dish.

Traditionally, piccata refers to a preparation—most often made with chicken or veal—where the protein is cooked in a sauce of lemon, butter, and capers. It’s known for its bright, tangy flavor and clean, balanced finish.

In this version, I take that same foundation and build on it in a way that feels a bit more comforting and complete. Tender, pan-seared salmon is paired with a silky lemon cream sauce, then served over pasta so everything comes together in one cohesive dish.

What makes this variation stand out is the addition of cream. It softens the sharpness of the lemon while still allowing that signature brightness to come through. The capers add little bursts of salinity, and when combined with garlic and broth (or wine), the result is a sauce that feels layered, not heavy.

I think of this dish as a bridge between classic and contemporary cooking—it keeps the integrity of traditional piccata flavors while making it feel more substantial and dinner-ready.

At its core, it’s a balance of:

  • Brightness from fresh lemon
  • Richness from cream
  • Depth from garlic and broth
  • Salinity from capers
  • And a tender, flaky salmon as the centerpiece

It’s simple, but when done well, it feels incredibly refined.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Each ingredient in this recipe serves a purpose, creating a sauce that feels layered and complete.

Pasta – for this we are using linguini noodles but you can use whatever pasta for this that you want.

Salmon – we are using fresh salmon filets for this – you can also use frozen if needed

Olive oil – for pan frying olive oil is the best in my opinion

Garlic –  of course we are using garlic – I mean is there any dish with a sauce that garlic is not needed? I think it is always a solid staple

Chicken broth – to give the sauce deeper flavor. You can also use a dry white wine like a Pinot Grigio, or a Chardonnay to add a little spin on the sauce.

Lemon – for this I am using both fresh lemon juice and lemon zest for maximum brightness and zesty flavors.

Capers – capers are a solid staple for me. They just give a great flavor and of course add to that signature piccata taste.

Heavy cream – to add a luxurious creamy texture to the sauce
