Whenever someone mentions summer, it’s impossible not to mention barbecue.  This afternoon I stopped by to chat with owners of Moe’s Original Bar B Que, Preston Smith and Brett Mancuso.  I wanted to know what makes their barbecue so unique.

Located in Midtown Atlanta, Preston and Brett renovated a 2,400 square foot part of the Kool Korners Midtown building to bring Moe’s to you and your barbecue-loving tastebuds.  The inside of the restaurant gives you a rustic feel complete with staples of the south.  And it also gives you a down-home comfortable feel that will make any family, student, or professional feel alike.

Recognized with many awards, Moe’s Original Bar B Que has been named one of the Top 10 Rib Joints in the U.S. by Relish.  They also specialize in serving award-winning “BAMA” style BBQ.  What I love most about the barbecue that they offer:  No matter what your diet is, they will have something for you.  So even if you don’t eat meat, they offer barbecue  tofu on their menu!

When I stopped by, I tried the following:

The bushwhacker:  Thick, creamy Wendy’s Frosty+Rum = Bushwhacker.  This is an awesome drink on hot summer’s day.  I took the pleasure in enjoying two.

BBQ Pork:  Extremely tender with a smokey flavor.  This was my first time trying BAMA-style BBQ sauce which is white BBQ sauce and red BBQ sauce.  When you mix them together, you have BAMA-style BBQ sauce.  It was absolutely delish!

Cole Slaw:  Growing up, I was never a fan of potato salad, macaroni salad, or cole slaw because of the heavy mayo that was used.  Well, I love the cole slaw at Moe’s because it is a vinegar-based cole slaw, not mayo-based.  It was a great side to have alongside my barbecue.

Ribs:  The meat on my ribs fell right off the bone.  And you won’t be served with barbecue sauce for your ribs, and to be honest, you won’t need any.

Fried shrimp and chicken:  Yes, you must try their fried shrimp.  You’re going to be surprised that the tarter sauce is yellow instead of white.  Moe’s uses special spices which cause the color to become  yellow.
