When I first arrived in New York City I was crazy busy. So when I finished all that I needed to do, I had one thing on my mind: FOOD!
The weather was extremely colder in New York verses Atlanta, so I wanted some comfort food. When you think of comfort food, you automatically think of soul food. And to my tastebuds, soul food sounded like heaven. The only place to send them to such a fabulous place would be Amy Ruth’s Soul Food in Harlem, New York.
When we arrived in Harlem, we walked into Amy Ruth’s and the cashier told us they were closed. I was pissed to say the least, because it was 20 minutes until closing. The manager overheard the conversation and encouraged us to stay and dine. I felt like I had just won a million bucks, because I was exhausted, starving, and cold. So having a good meal at this point was my everything.

The inside of the restaurant is just awesome. There are several murals in the back of the restaurant with hand-painted pictures of Bill Cosby, Barack Obama, Michael Jordan, and Stevie Wonder.
My server was the best. A lot of times when you go to the a restaurant late at night or right before their closing time, things seem to be not up to par. At Amy Ruth’s, it was just the opposite. They treated our late visit as if it were 7 p.m. instead of 10:45 p.m.
After looking at the menu, I decided to order the fried chicken with collard greens and mac and cheese. I am always nervous trying soul food. I love soul food, and I am extremely particular about certain dishes especially mac and cheese.
When the food came out, I was in heaven. Even though we walked in late, the food was served, hot, fresh, and delectable to say the least. I had a great time at Amy Ruth’s.
When I return to New York City, I will make sure that I visit this spot way before closing!
