Pumpkin Hot Chocolate

- 2 cups milk (whole milk or any plant-based milk of your choice)
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves
- marshmallows
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- whipped cream
- cinnamon stick for garnish
- nutmeg for garnish
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, pumpkin puree, sugar, cocoa powder, and pumpkin pie spice.
Warm over medium heat, whisking constantly, until hot but not boiling and the sugar has dissolved — about 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in the vanilla.
Remove from heat and pour into mugs. For a grown-up version, stir a shot of pumpkin or cream liqueur into each mug.
Top with whipped cream and/or marshmallows, a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg, and a cinnamon stick. Serve immediately.
