Pumpkin Hot Chocolate

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups milk (whole milk or any plant-based milk of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves
  • marshmallows
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • whipped cream
  • cinnamon stick for garnish
  • nutmeg for garnish

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, pumpkin puree, sugar, cocoa powder, and pumpkin pie spice.
  • Warm over medium heat, whisking constantly, until hot but not boiling and the sugar has dissolved — about 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in the vanilla.
  • Remove from heat and pour into mugs. For a grown-up version, stir a shot of pumpkin or cream liqueur into each mug.
  • Top with whipped cream and/or marshmallows, a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg, and a cinnamon stick. Serve immediately.
