1 // LOCATION: Is the wedding an outdoor wedding or indoor wedding? Is it at night or a daytime wedding? When the temperature is dropping no matter where you are located sometimes layers are a must. I love a great long jacket to help layer you up without changing the vibe of your outfit. You can also opt for a great luxurious faux fur for an outdoor winter wedding as it will help not only keep you warm but you will also look super stylish/glamorous wearing it! Opt for a neutral like tan or white or do black since it can pretty much go with everything! A great additional option is opting for a velvet texture – whether it is day or night – Velvet, satin, and silk textures will help you stay warm and the cooler temperatures drops.

2 // FORMALITY: Choosing the perfect winter wedding guest outfit you must take into account WHAT is the theme of the wedding! Is it going to be a formal wedding, a destination/beach wedding, a garden wedding or something formal optional? This is important when picking your outfit as depending on the formality it will largely determine if you are going to wearing cocktail style, long dress style, or something in between!

3 // BRING ON THE JEWEL TONES : The thing I love most about winter weddings is whether it is formal, informal, cocktail or black tie- you can bring on some color. This dress is absolutely stunning from the color to the fit. I recently wore this on a dinner night out at the Livingston Restaurant & Bar in Atlanta– and let me tell you I received SO many compliments on this dress. Not only is it simple, it makes a slight statement with the leg slit. The jewel toned color is amazing for all skin tones. Winter weddings are perfect to break out some color whether it is your dress, shoes or accessories.

4 // AVOID LOW CUT NECKLINES : If you tend to get cold easily- low-cut dresses sometimes are not a great fit. Let’s be honest – your chest can get cold very quickly which then makes everything else cold. For winter weddings I like to opt for a higher neckline and avoid things like strapless (unless rocking under a coat or layer), a plunging neckline (again unless wearing under a layer like a faux fur shawl) and off the shoulder dresses. Great options are jeweled necklines , turtleneck style dresses, keyhole necklines, halter necklines or a collar.

5 // WHEN IN DOUBT GO FOR A LONG SLEEVE : For me anytime I am not sure what to wear to a winter wedding regardless of the time of day – I opt for a long sleeve. Some people shy away from long sleeves because they think they are boring – but trust me they don’t have to be. Ruffles, pleats, embellishments all make a long sleeve very NOT boring!
