- 8 pcs slices thick-cut bread (such as Brioche or Challah Bread)
- 2 pcs large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- 2 tbsp Cognac or brandy (optional)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 cup sliced strawberries
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Prepare the custard. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, Cognac or brandy (if using), vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth and fully combined.
Heat the skillet. Place a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add the butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface evenly.
Dip the bread. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides lightly. Let any excess drip off to avoid soggy French toast.
Cook the French toast. Place the coated bread slices onto the hot skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Prepare the strawberries. While the French toast cooks, place the sliced strawberries in a small bowl. Lightly mash them with a fork to release their juices while keeping some texture.
Assemble and serve. Transfer the French toast to serving plates. Top with mashed strawberries and dust lightly with powdered sugar.
Add optional toppings. Serve immediately with whipped cream or maple syrup, if desired.
