Ingredients
  

  • 8 pcs slices thick-cut bread (such as Brioche or Challah Bread)
  • 2 pcs large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • tbsp Cognac or brandy (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • tbsp butter
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Optional for serving:

  • Whipped cream
  • Maple syrup

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the custard. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, Cognac or brandy (if using), vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth and fully combined.
  • Heat the skillet. Place a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add the butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface evenly.
  • Dip the bread. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides lightly. Let any excess drip off to avoid soggy French toast.
  • Cook the French toast. Place the coated bread slices onto the hot skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Prepare the strawberries. While the French toast cooks, place the sliced strawberries in a small bowl. Lightly mash them with a fork to release their juices while keeping some texture.
  • Assemble and serve. Transfer the French toast to serving plates. Top with mashed strawberries and dust lightly with powdered sugar.
  • Add optional toppings. Serve immediately with whipped cream or maple syrup, if desired.
